fort of somba opu



the renovation and the building of somba opu fort were continued to the 16th gowa king soultan alaudin, even after the rule of soultan hasanuddin, the development of somba opu city was increased rapidly and became the center of goverment and also as one of the commerce city which was very famous in southeast asia.

somba opu fort was destroyed by the ducth in 1669 after the big battle between soultan hasanuddin and the ducth. the down of somba opu fort became the ruin of the gowa kingdom.
the physical condition of somba opu fort has square shape, one of its side +_ 2 KM length and the walls heigt between 7 to 8 meters. after buried for +- 3 centuries, then as an effort to regain the glory of somba opu city the archaeological and historical service of south sulawesi province has done a research and renovation until today.

now, the status of somba opu fort has became one of tourism object which known an miniature park of south sulawesi. in this area, was also bilt traditional houses from many kind of ethnic in south sulawesi. for completing the order facilities, they also built several building as a representative of every regency or city in south sulawesi. those building especially functioned as supporting facilities for province scale activities.
